Our History
Selser Dental
Lab has its roots in a rich heritage of the dental laboratory industry dating back to
1931. Ed Selser, now retired, began his career in dental technology in the most modest of
jobs... delivering cases via street cars in New Orleans. Given Ed’s eagerness to
learn, he quickly was promoted to constructing bite rims, waxing dentures and pouring
& articulating models.
By 1935, Ed was
embracing the leading-edge technology of the day by meeting the small, but growing demand
for porcelain jacket crowns... an attitude of progressive change that is mirrored by
Ed’s sons, Charles and Robert, the Certified Dental Technicians who own and operate Selser
Dental Lab today. This early commitment to continuing dental education lives on
today in the current management of the laboratory and is embodied in the investment
represented by the Productivity Training Corporation’s {PTC} Skill Learning Systems.
Subsequent to
Ed’s military service in the Navy and Marine Corps during World War II, he moved his
family to Texas where he managed a number of very successful dental laboratories. In 1963,
Ed opened his own dental laboratory in New Orleans and focused his technical acumen on
full mouth rehabilitation cases.
Ed was joined in
the business by Charles in 1974; and Robert in 1979. In 1980, Charles moved to Florida,
but Ed and Robert continued to serve the profession in New Orleans until 1984 when Ed
decided to close his laboratory. It was that same year that Charles and Robert established
Selser Dental Lab which serves the dental profession in Louisiana, Florida
and Mississippi. However, Ed did continue to serve the profession as he did throughout his
career by working for Charles and Robert until June of 1998.

PTC
Skill Learning Systems
 Since 1986, Selser Dental
Lab has made a considerable investment in training and human resources to provide you with
high quality dental restorations on a consistent basis. A key facet of this investment is
the PTC {Productivity Training Corporation} skill learning systems. PTC is a group of
comprehensive videotape programs that illustrate step-by-step restorative and prosthetic
procedures in a logical sequence. The minutest detail is observed by each technician on
the tapes, enabling him/her to repeat fabrication procedures over and over again... thus
reinforcing basic and newly acquired skills. In addition to viewing the tapes, each
technician utilizes a self-study manual and tooth models which provide an accurate example
of tooth anatomy.
We value PTC as a
part of our training armamentarium since it provides us with a disciplined, objective and
systematic method to train our technicians... and provide you with consistent cases
day-after-day!

Infection Control That's Good To The Last Drop
It never
lasts long, ten minutes maybe. But it's an intense ten minutes... and without the rinsing
and disinfecting of your impressions, the benefits of your therapeutic competence can be
severely diminished.
Selser Dental Lab
takes positive steps every day to assure you and your patients of maximum protection from
the potential hazards of the cross-contamination cycle. Our Aseptic Control Center is a
separate department in our laboratory... staffed by personnel trained to ardently practice
infection control procedures advocated by the ADA, CDC and OHSA. But it doesn't stop
there... since the procedures of aseptic conditions are a required practice by all SELSER
personnel. Moreover, that's why you'll receive our special "safe-t-bags" to help
prevent cross-contamination of shipping boxes and packing materials with each returned
case!
